Referrals to the Liver and HPB Unit

Patients are seen only at the request of the patient's family practitioner or referring consultant. For routine appointments, please write, fax or phone the consultant you wish your patient to see.

Most patients will be seen within two weeks of referral but if you wish your patient to be seen urgently, please telephone or fax the consultant's secretary.

For individual consultant contact details, please see our consultant directory.

Urgent patients will usually be seen within one week.

As there are both medical and surgical clinics every weekday, patients can be seen within 24 hours. Please phone the liver outpatients clinics to make an appointment.

Both medical and surgical registrars are available for advice 24 hours a day. At night, one consultant surgeon and a consultant physician are always on-call. A surgical registrar and a medical registrar can be contacted through switchboard to help with any medical or surgical liver problem.

Switchboard: 0121 371 2000
Fax: 0121 414 1833

Non-NHS patients

At present, the unit is unable to accept for liver transplantation patients who are not eligible for NHS treatment.
