New patient referrals
If you have access to NHS eReferrals, please refer your patients via this method rather than sending in via the post/fax. University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) continually monitors and updates the directory of services to accurately reflect clinics/services available. Any referrals sent outside of eReferrals from a GP surgery will be rejected.
UHB runs many specialist, rather than general, clinics, e.g. cataract and glaucoma clinics, as opposed to a general ophthalmology clinic. You can use the SNOMED CT search facility on NHS eReferrals and typing in, for example, "cataract", a list of associated clinical terms will be displayed. If you select the chosen term the correct service will be made available to offer as a choice to your patient.
From 4 January 2016, two week wait services have been made available on NHS eReferrals. Two week wait referrals should no longer be faxed and should instead be booked via NHS eReferrals.
Please refer to our referral forms page, if there is a form available for the type of referral you wish to make, please use this.
For services which are unavailable on NHS eReferrals please send your referral letters to the postal or email address below:
