1,000th cochlear implant celebrations

Story posted/last updated: 29 November 2012

On Sunday 12 September 2010, the Midlands Hearing Implant Programme celebrated their 21st birthday and 1,000th cochlear implant. Around 500 guests including patients and members of staff enjoyed a buffet lunch, entertainers and a magician at the Botanical Gardens, Birmingham.

The adult Midlands Hearing Implant Programme is based at University Hospitals Birmingham with Birmingham Children’s hospital providing services for children.

The day was also an opportunity to say farewell to Mr. David Proops, Consultant ENT surgeon. David was instrumental in establishing the cochlear implant programme and retired from UHB earlier in 2010.

The event was made possible thanks to sponsorship from Advanced Bionics, Medel and the Midlands Hearing Implant Programme gold sponsor Cochlear.
