AA team drives charity fundraising

Story posted/last updated: 29 November 2012

As well as assisting road users, staff at the AA’s Oldbury base have found time to raise thousands of pounds to help patients at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB).

Louise Cooney, Jenny Parkes, Katie Brown, Jemma Merricks and Emma Buckley recently visited the hospital to present its official charity with a cheque for £2,802.18. The team also enjoyed a tour of the hospital to see just how much difference their donation will make to patients.

AA Communication Administrator Louise Cooney said: “Each year we take a vote on which charity to support and the staff voted overwhelmingly to support the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity.

“We did all sorts of things to raise the funds, from selling merchandise to cake sales, raffles and organising events, such as a Valentine’s Day celebration. We’re thrilled to have been able to donate so much to a local charity which supports so many people from the community and it’s been really wonderful to actually come and see how the charity could spend our money.”

Paul Mitchell, Corporate and Community Fundraiser for QEHB Charity, added: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at the AA’s Oldbury branch for raising such a fantastic amount.

"Without such generous donations we wouldn’t be able to continue to fund equipment, research and training which is over and above that which the NHS provides. It is thanks to our hard working fundraisers, such as the AA team, that we can make a difference to the lives of patients, visitors and staff here.”

The AA is one of a number of companies and stores around the Midlands raising funds for the hospital charity. To find out how your company can support patients treated at QEHB, please call the charity on 0121 371 4852 or visit their website. You can also follow QEHB Charity on Facebook and Twitter.
