Award-winning apprentice catering for all
Story posted/last updated: 20 March 2019
A Ward Catering Team Leader at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) has won a prestigious award.
Sabrina Burke, who works within the Facilities department, received the award for Hospitality Apprentice of the Year at the South & City College Birmingham Apprenticeships Awards Dinner. She completed her apprenticeship in June 2018.
The college’s annual ceremony recognises and celebrates the achievements of their apprentices and took place during National Apprenticeships Week in March 2019.
Sabrina said: “I was surprised and honoured to receive this nomination. This achievement has made me more passionate to strive towards my aspirations in life. The best thing about completing an apprenticeship was being fully supported by my management team and work colleagues to achieve this goal.
“I would highly recommend doing an apprenticeship within the work place as it allows you to have flexibility.”
Laura Clarke, Lead Catering Manager at QEHB, said: “Sabrina joined our organisation as a much valued Ward Catering Assistant, who demonstrated Team Leader potential.
“Now in a leadership role, her capabilities have won her the respect and acclaim from, peers and mangers alike and I’m delighted that South & City College Birmingham have also recognised her ability with this prestigious award.
“Both myself and the whole team are really proud of her success.”
