Become a compassionate care volunteer

Story posted/last updated: 24 September 2021

Would you like to make a difference to patients approaching end of life and their loved ones?

UHB is working in partnership with end of life charity the Anne Robson Trust to recruit and train a team of dedicated compassionate care volunteers to support patients who are approaching end of life.

Working as part of the end of life and bereavement team, this unique volunteering opportunity will enable you to support patients who may have no visitors at all, as well as providing a listening ear to family and friends facing the death of a loved one. You could make cups of tea or sit quietly with the patient.

We are looking for people who can be compassionate and kind even in the most challenging circumstances. You will need to be emotionally resilient and able to remain composed in highly sensitive circumstances.

Volunteers are asked to commit to one shift a week, mornings or afternoons, Monday to Friday, and will be based on the Good Hope Hospital site where the service is to be launched first.

More information about the role is available in our frequently asked questions via the link below.

If you would like to register your interest in becoming a Compassionate Care volunteer, please contact the project coordinator, Denise Nally.

Email: Denise.Nally@uhb.nhs.uk

You will then be invited to one of our information sessions due to be held in October.
