Careers Event for Armed Forces service leavers
Story posted/last updated: 30 September 2019
The Trust hosted a Careers Event on 11 September at the Learning Hub, in collaboration with NHS Employers and other West Midlands NHS Trusts. The event provided around 60 Armed Forces service leavers, reservists, veterans, cadet adult volunteers and military families with an insight into career and employment opportunities within the NHS. A series of presentations and workshops gave attendees the opportunity to review a number of career pathways and current vacancies.
Representatives from facilities, informatics and healthcare science were some of the speakers on the day. Attendees also had the opportunity to attend two workshops covering:
- how to map your skills and experience to an NHS job description and person specification
- how to navigate NHS Jobs website and hints and tips for completing NHS jobs application forms
- Radiotherapy Engineering. A look inside our machines and how you can make a real difference to people’s lives being a Linac Engineer
- lifestyle coaching
- hints and tips for preparing for interviewer
Attendees visited the marketplace to find out more about healthcare careers and development, with stalls from Warwick University, Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and West Midlands Ambulance Service.
Duncan Capps CBE and Dr David Rosser co-signed the Armed Forces covenant at the end, making a promise that the Trust will ensure that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
