Charity named prestigious awards partner
Story posted/last updated: 29 November 2012
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity has been selected as the charity partner for the forthcoming British Asian Hafta Awards.
Organised by Women of Cultures, the 5th annual awards ceremony takes place at the International Convention Centre on Saturday 3 December 2011, from 18:00. As well as celebrating the achievements of British Asians through the presentation of eight awards, the evening also marks the important contribution British Asians make to the community and economy.
Donations made to the charity at the event will go towards its QE Cancer Appeal, which aims to bring the world’s most advanced cancer treatment technology to Birmingham.
Mike Hammond, chief executive of the QEHB Charity, said: “We are honoured to have been chosen as the British Asian Hafta Awards charity partner. As the official charity of the Queen Elizabeth and Selly Oak hospitals, we are a local charity which serves a range of communities both geographical and cultural.
“With the support of the British Asian community we can bring one of the world’s most advanced cancer treatment technologies – a CyberKnife - to Birmingham. Our QE Cancer Appeal aims to make the Queen Elizabeth Hospital the only UK hospital outside London to have this amazing system, which can give those with tumours that are difficult to treat a better chance at life.”
Gurjeet Kaur Bains, CEO of Women of Cultures, added: “It gives us great pleasure to partner with the QEHB Charity as our official charity for the 5th annual British Asian Hafta Awards. We’d be delighted if people would consider applying for the awards, as these allow us to portray success stories and hopefully empower others.
“I am lucky enough to have seen first hand the excellent work the charity does in supporting patients and their families at a very difficult and stressful time. The vision of the Awards has always been to celebrate our heritage, culture, success and contribution to Britain, our country. We are proud to be helping to advance the cancer treatments available to patients by supporting the QE Cancer Appeal.”
Tickets for the awards dinner are priced £60 each or £550 for a table of ten. To purchase tickets, or to find out more information about the awards, please contact Gurjeet on 0121 350 2449 or 07901 502 508.
