Chinese nurses visit QEHB

Story posted/last updated: 29 November 2012

A group of senior nurses from China visited Birmingham’s largest hospital as part of a fact finding tour to the city.

The nurses, mostly from Beijing, visited the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) to compare work practices and equipment.

The visit was led by UHB’s Training & Development Manager Simon Redwood, who showed the nurses through coronary care, a ward, theatres, critical care, the emergency department and imaging.

One of the visitors, Xuefang An, said the visit had been an interesting one for her and her colleagues: “It’s been very useful and we found some interesting differences with nurses work here. It is a very well equipped hospital, very beautiful place to work.”

The nurses were accompanied by Charlotte Miles and Sandra Smith, both lecturers in health and social care at Bournville College.

Charlotte said the visit was an important one for the nurses: “They are all senior management nurses from China, and they’re on a three-week programme to look at the similarities and difference of nursing between the UK and China.”

“They are visiting the Children’s Hospital as well, to get a good overview of procedures in different British hospitals.”
