Construction services provider, Kier has been appointed by the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) to build the new £97.1m Ambulatory Care and Diagnostics (ACAD) Centre at Heartlands Hospital.
The construction project will include a new 18,000m² four-storey building that upon completion will provide a number of first-class facilities for the hospital, including specialist audiology and ear nose and throat services, therapies gym, and Imaging facilities for ultrasounds and X-rays, as well as CT and MRI scanners. Day surgery and endoscopy procedures will also be carried out in the new centre.
The new ACAD building will care for half a million patients per year and has been designed to provide a modern, spacious environment purpose-built to meet the needs of patients, with dementia friendly and accessible design features.
Cherry West, Trust Chief Transformation Officer said: “This is a major capital project which will make a huge difference to both our patients and our staff. We look forward to working with Kier to deliver a high-quality, modern building that will enable us to meet the evolving needs of the local population.”

We have a breadth of experience in successfully delivering NHS projects and we look forward to bringing this expertise to the project.”
A series of enabling works have already taken place including the demolition of Bordesley House and the oncology bungalow, and will continue in preparation for the main building work to start this summer, with the project due for completion in 2022.
