Do you know someone who deserves to be recognised?

Story posted/last updated: 26 June 2019

We want to shine a spotlight on those providing excellent care across our services, celebrating achievement, commitment, ingenuity and determination of all our staff.

Our Building Healthier Lives Awards aim to recognise staff, volunteers, fundraisers and members of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) who are building healthier lives for the people of Birmingham and Solihull.

The 14 award categories will celebrate the exceptional achievements, dedication and compassion of so many, who every day go "above and beyond" to provide the best care for our patients and their families or go that "extra mile" to support colleagues in this aim.

As the format for 2018/19 was so popular, we have decided to do the same again for 2019/20. The awards will be in two stages: site finals and an overall grand final.

Site finals

At each of our hospital sites (Good Hope Hospital, Heartlands Hospital including Birmingham Chest Clinic, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and Solihull Hospital including Solihull Community Services), bronze, silver and gold awards will be presented to the judging panel’s top three nominees in each award category. The site finals will be held at each of our four hospitals in November 2019.

Grand final

The gold award winners from each site go forward to the Grand Final to decide the overall Trust-wide winner for each award category. The winner for each category will be presented with the Diamond Award at a glittering ceremony in March 2020.

To celebrate the wide variety of ways staff and volunteers support patients across the Trust, 14 very special awards will be presented. There has been a slight change to the categories this year, as we introduce a new "Leader of the Year" category.

How to make a nomination

Anyone can nominate a member of staff (or team), charity supporter or a volunteer working anywhere within the Trust. Simply complete our online nomination form or fill in a paper nomination form available from our main reception desks. Visit our awards website via the link below for further details.

For the first time, this year we will be accepting video entries. If you'd prefer to make your nomination by video, send a short video (no more than two minutes) to:

Email: Awards@uhb.nhs.uk

Nominations close on 31 August.
