Find out about new dialysis centre

Story posted/last updated: 08 September 2014

Renal patients and relatives are being invited to an open day to see how a new dialysis centre in Smethwick will look when it opens in 2015.

The Smethwick Dialysis Centre is planned to open in Spring 2015, offering a range of services to dialysis patients with kidney disease.

The Smethwick Renal Open Day takes place on Sunday 14 September 2014, from 14:00 – 15:30, at the Postgraduate Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Patients and relatives will have the opportunity to see the artist’s impressions and plans for the centre, and also hear about how care will be delivered once the centre opens.

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB), will also be using the open day to recruit nursing roles for the new facility in Smethwick.

Anyone interested in a career at the Trust and working at the new Smethwick Dialysis Centre is invited to come along to the open day and speak to hospital matron Liz Simpson and professional development nurse Gabby Kelly about their roles and the career and training opportunities on offer.

Gabby, who delivers training programmes across all the Trust’s dialysis units, began her career as a dialysis nurse at the unit in Tipton 13 years ago.

She said: “My role is to support and develop staff so they are confident in every aspect of a patient’s care, not just operating equipment, so that our patients are well looked after and their experience is as positive as possible.”

Refreshments and both Punjabi and Urdu interpreters will on hand at the open day.
