International Dawn Chorus Day at QEHB

Story posted/last updated: 21 April 2016

As part of International Dawn Chorus Day, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) will be conducting a Dawn Chorus Walk through the Community Orchard and Gardens.

Starting early on Sunday 1 May 2016 at 06:00, Glenn Powell, The Conservation Volunteer’s Orchard Community Worker will take you on a relaxed and informal walk with a route around the green spaces across the medical campus to listen to nature’s orchestra.

Birds are very vocal at this time of year in trying to attract a mate or defending their territory. Glenn will be able to help identify with you birds by their songs and give you information about each of the species.

Some of the species that live on and around the hospital site include Green Woodpecker, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Song Thrush and more. Interestingly the hospital is also home to Peregrine Falcons and Sparrowhawk.

Please meet at the Main Entrance of QEHB at 06:00 on Sunday 1 May 2016 - There is no need to register. The walk will last approximately one hour.

For more information, please contact the Community Orchard and Gardens.
