It's the Year to Care

Story posted/last updated: 15 April 2014

Become a nursing auxiliary at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham

Update: please note that these nursing auxiliary vacancies have now closed.

Deciding to become a nurse is a big decision. On the "Year to Care" scheme, you will get the opportunity to care for patients on the wards and assist with clinical tasks while working as a nursing auxiliary. After the year, if you think a career in nursing is for you, you’ll be supported by Birmingham City University in your application for a nursing degree course.

In order to be considered for Year to Care, you will need to be able to meet the academic requirements for entry to Birmingham City University's BSc (Hons) Nursing programme – BTECs, Access to Health courses and "A" levels are accepted.

To be shortlisted for interview, you also need to demonstrate in your application form that you possess the necessary attributes for the job – including a caring nature, a flexible approach to work and a real passion to become a full-time nurse in the future.

Applicants who are shortlisted will be required to attend literacy and numeracy testing.

For more information, please visit the Year to Care page on the Birmingham City University website.
