New "patient-friendly" name badges rolled out

Story posted/last updated: 20 March 2019

All ward-based staff are being given a new yellow name badge in a Trust-wide scheme to support good communication with patients and visitors.

The eye catching yellow badge features larger text than the previous white badge, ensuring patients can easily see who they are talking to and who is treating them. The project also helps remind staff of the importance of introducing themselves properly.

The colour contrast of black and yellow is widely recognised as being highly readable for everyone; whilst stimulating colours such as yellow can also help patients and visitors with visual impairments and dementia to more easily identify staff names.

Andy Daly, Associate Director of Nursing, said: “It is important in our role as care givers that patients quickly establish trust and confidence in us. Clear communication and how we identify ourselves helps to build this, and the Trust is also proud to support the national #hellomynameis campaign for compassionate healthcare which focuses on this issue. We are already hearing positive feedback on our new badges.”

All ward-based staff in Division 3 and the senior nursing team are now sporting their new name badges, with other Divisions across the Trust following suit shortly.
