Network of On-call Referral Services (NORSE) system improvements

Story posted/last updated: 27 January 2021

Following feedback from users, a number of improvements are being made to NORSE to make the site easier to navigate.

NORSE will be unavailable 10:00–12:00 on Tuesday 2 February while the system gets upgraded.

Please note, during this time you can still make emergency referrals to UHB.

You will just need to telephone UHB to refer patients. If you are not sure what number to call please contact the UHB switchboard and ask for the relevant specialism’s on-call Registrar.

Tel: 0121 371 2000

Conversations should be recorded and added to NORSE when it is back online.

Here are the key changes that will be made during this planned downtime:

Improvements to "Your Current View"

The NORSE Team received feedback indicating that NORSE Users wanted the "Your Current Role" options to be easier to use.

NORSE Users will see:

  • "Your Current Role" has been renamed "Your Current View"
  • In the Current View drop down, all items prefixed with "ReferrertoUHB" will be removed leaving just the one item labelled as "ReferrertoUHB". For example "ReferrertoUHB - Burns", "ReferrertoUHB - Hand Trauma" will be removed from the drop list and replaced with just "ReferrertoUHB". Please see the below screen shot.
    • In the future, it will not matter what specialty an external NORSE User (non-UHB) is referring to - they only need to select "Referrer to UHB".
