October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) has lots of events planned to mark the occasion.

The Breast Screening team will be holding an information stand in the atrium of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) on the dates listed below. There will also be the chance to win fantastic prizes in a raffle raising funds for Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer, and QEHB Charity’s Breast Cancer appeal.

  • Wednesday 4 October 2017
  • Friday 6 October 2017
  • Wednesday 11 October 2017
  • Tuesday 17 October 2017
  • Monday 30 October 2017

Siobhan Lydon, Senior Radiographer, Health Promotion and Advanced Practitioner at UHB, will be delivering October’s UHB Health Talk on Thursday 26 October in Lecture Theatre 3, Education Centre, Level 1, at QEHB. This free to attend presentation starts at 10:00 and will focus on breast cancer and the importance of screening.

The Trust’s neighbour, the University of Birmingham (UoB), is kindly supporting the QEHB Charity Breast Cancer Appeal by ‘pinking up’ the Joseph Chamberlain Memorial Clock Tower, the tallest free-standing clock tower in the world. Look out for ‘Old Joe’ which will be lit up during the first and last week of October.

The Charity has also organised a Pink Skydive on Saturday 28 October 2017 and a raffle with lots of brilliant prizes, including an overnight stay at Hotel La Tour and a spa package for two. Raffle tickets cost £2 each and available to purchase from the QEHB Charity Hub in the hospital atrium, from the Radiotherapy Department in the Cancer Centre and from the Breast Cancer Unit at Birmingham Women’s Hospital. You can also buy tickets online via the QEHB Charity shop.

Throughout the month, wards and departments across the hospital will be taking part in ‘Pink Days’. If you would like to set up your own Pink Day supported by QEHB Charity, please contact Rachel Learmonth.
