Premier League trophy comes to QEHB
Story posted/last updated: 28 November 2012
Staff, patients and visitors at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham enjoyed a close-up view of the Barclays Premier League Trophy last week.
The iconic silverware, which has been held aloft by some of the most famous players in world football, was showcased in the hospital’s main entrance for several hours on the 29 December 2011.
Queues of football fans keen to have a photo with the trophy in return for a donation to the hospital’s official charity quickly formed. The silverware was then taken up to the military ward where injured troops and their families made the most of the rare opportunity to have their pictures taken with it.
Mike Hammond, chief executive of the QEHB Charity which coordinated the visit, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at the Barclays Premier League for making this visit possible. It was fantastic to see so many patients, visitors and staff enjoying the chance to have their photo taken with the famous trophy and in doing so support the charity. One of the highlights of the afternoon for us was being able to take the trophy up to the military patients and their families who were overjoyed to be pictured with it.”
