QEHB consultants raise funds for Movember
Story posted/last updated: 01 August 2013
Ear, Nose and Throat and Maxillofacial consultants from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) took part in a well-earned team shave after completing a month of moustache growing for charity.
During the month of November, men across the globe are sponsored to grow their moustaches as part of Movember and to raise awareness of testicular and prostate cancer. Last year the ‘Mo-vement’ raised £79.3 million for cancer charities, including Prostate Cancer UK and the Institute of Cancer research.
The QEHB event was organised by Peter Monksfield, a consultant surgeon, and has been a huge success - raising £1,308 for charity.
The twelve consultants gathered on Friday 30 November, armed with razors, shaving foam and scissors to celebrate their achievement. A group of nurses also joined in the fun, helping to shave away a month’s worth of facial hair.
Declan Costello, consultant surgeon, said “I am so relived it is over! I certainly will not miss my moustache, and neither will my wife – she hated it!”
