Carers Week, taking place between 10 and 16 June, is an annual awareness campaign designed to highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

There are 6.5 million people in the UK who are carers and whilst it can be a hugely rewarding experience, carers often find it challenging to take care of their own well-being whilst caring. Caring without the right information and support can be tough and this year’s official campaign focuses on ‘getting carers connected’ –  linking carers up with all of the necessary information and support they need.

In recognition of this, UHB is hosting a series of information support stands at each of the hospital sites throughout Carers Week where the Trust’s carer co-ordinator team will be on hand to talk to patients, visitors and staff about the carer services available at UHB, give out "carer packs" and offer advice on all other aspects of caring. A representative from the Carers Network group will also be available to support members of staff who are carers outside of work.
