A local academic and author has acknowledged the specialist team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) who have taken care of him, in his latest book.

Professor Mark Duffield is an Honorary Professor in the School of Government and Society at the University of Birmingham, a Professor Emeritus at the University of Bristol and former Director of the Global Insecurities Centre.

Since 2011, Prof Duffield has been treated at UHB’s Centre for Rare Diseases by Dr Tahir Shah, Consultant Hepatologist and Head of the Birmingham Neuroendocrine Tumour Centre and his team. Grateful for the care he has received, Prof Duffield decided to acknowledge the team in the preface of his latest book.

Prof Duffield, who lives in Dudley, said: “I wanted to thank Dr Shah and all of the team for looking after me and keeping my condition under control. I feel very fortunate to have been a patient here and have always had a very friendly welcome.”

Dr Shah was touched by the acknowledgment and said that the book, ‘Post-Humanitarianism: Governing Precarity in the Digital World’, would be treasured by the team.
