University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) will be hosting an event on Monday 16 October 2017 for members of the public to learn vital lifesaving skills on European Restart a Heart Day.

The Trust’s Resuscitation Team will be available to provide a range of activities, including how to know if someone is in cardiac arrest, and how to start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Other events will include demonstrations of automated external defibrillators (AED), which are often available in public places. The Resuscitation Team will also be able to offer advice on general life saving skills such as choking interventions.

Marion De Almeida Santos, Resuscitation Officer at UHB said: “We are looking forward to Restart a Heart Day immensely.

“Now in its fifth year, this event is a brilliant way to raise awareness of life saving skills, and a great opportunity to meet patients, staff and the public and show them how to use AED and give CPR to those suffering a cardiac arrest.

This year the theme is ‘society saves lives’, which happens nationwide on a daily basis, with members of the public helping those suffering a cardiac arrest before an ambulance arrives.

Restart a Heart Day is a designated day of action across Europe with the aim to teach vital lifesaving CPR skills to as many people as possible.

Nationwide, the aim is to reach over 150,000 people and teach them crucial lifesaving skills.
