Royal visitor flies in
Story posted/last updated: 29 November 2012
Prince Charles has paid a morale-boosting visit to injured service personnel being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB).
The Prince of Wales flew into the hospital by helicopter yesterday (Monday 25 July 2011) and was met by Julie Moore, Chief Executive of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB), Dr Dave Rosser, the Trust’s Medical Director, and Group Captain Wendy Williams, Commanding Officer of the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine (RCDM).
During the visit Prince Charles met volunteers who had just finished a 3,580-mile "Bastion2Birmingham" endurance challenge on exercise bikes and treadmills inside the QEHB's main entrance.
He was then introduced to NHS staff, before going onto a ward to meet patients, their families and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and NHS staff who work together to care for military patients at the hospital.
The Prince also paid a brief visit to the Neurology Department at the old QE Hospital where he met other military patients, family and staff.
The visit lasted almost four hours and was the Prince’s fourth to the new hospital since its opening in June 2010.
