Sponsored cycle ride
Story posted/last updated: 28 November 2012
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is taking over a service for a condition called Alström syndrome. This is a very rare recessively inherited genetic disorder that affects multiple organ systems.
To mark the transition of the service to UHB, Alström Syndrome UK, the charity which supports those affected by the syndrome, has arranged a sponsored cycle ride on 22 – 25 June 2012.
The charity is looking for people to cycle from Torbay Hospital, where the service was previously located, to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) as part of a team raising money for Alström Syndrome UK and raising awareness of the condition and the adult clinic's move to its new home.
Volunteers do not have to complete the whole journey from Devon to Birmingham but can join for part of the trip. Participants from Birmingham are invited to take part in the last day of cycling, when the ride is closer to Birmingham.
Alström Syndrome UK has set up a JustGiving team page which participants can join, where their sponsors can donate to the charity (see link below).
If you you would like to help, either by joining the ride or in a fundraising capacity, please contact Catherine Lewis.
