Yvonne Pettigrew tandem skydiving

Tandem skydiver extraordinaire

Story posted/last updated: 29 July 2015

Yvonne Pettigrew, Associate Director for Allied Health Professionals and Head of Therapy Service at UHB, has successfully completed her tandem skydive and raised £7,550 for the MS Trust.

Yvonne described the experience as exciting and challenging, but admits there were more than a few moments when she was absolutely terrified and that she has no plans to do it again.

Yvonne is keen to thank colleagues, friends and family for their tremendous support and their generosity in sponsoring her, which she has found almost overwhelming.

Her original target of £1,000 was met within a week and the revised target of £5,000 was also soon exceeded.

Yvonne was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS) in 2013 and chose the MS Trust as her charity because, alongside the information and practical advice it provides, it takes a lead in disease modifying research creating optimism for the 100,000 people in the UK who have MS.

In common with the 10 – 15% of people with MS who have PPMS, Yvonne’s symptoms are non-remitting but so far largely invisible to others.

As she says, “ Long may it stay that way!”
