Top TV award for show featuring UHB consultant

Story posted/last updated: 04 September 2018

A programme featuring a UHB consultant has won another major television award.

"Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds" won the award for Best Popular Factual series at the Edinburgh International Television Festival this week.

The festival is an annual media event in the UK each August which brings together all parts of the television and digital world to debate the major issues facing the industry. Over the years the festival has attracted some of the world’s most significant industry figures, from Rupert and Elisabeth Murdoch to Simon Cowell and Ricky Gervais.

It remains the only event both run by and for the television industry.

Consultant Geriatrician Dr Zoe Wyrko is part of the expert team enlisted for the Channel 4 show to study what happens when you pair a group of elderly people with children, and the relationships that form over a six week period.

Dame Julie Moore, UHB's Chief Executive, said on Twitter that the award was “well deserved” and that it’s “not often a TV programme so directly influences health and social care policy.”

The first series received critical acclaim and was BAFTA-nominated. Filming is currently underway for a second series.
