UHB research teams recognised at awards

Story posted/last updated: 31 March 2017

Research teams at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) have been recognised for their expertise in delivering commercial research studies.

The Trust Research and Development Department were announced as the outright winners for Delivering Commercial Studies to Time & Target category at the 2016 West Midlands NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) Awards.

The accolade goes to the trust or partner which shows greatest contribution to delivering patient recruitment to deadline and within budget for commercial studies. This demonstrates good performance for UHB working with pharmaceuticals companies and in turn attracts investment and growth for the UK economy.

UHB has the highest number of commercial studies that have met the criteria over the past two years as well as having the most studies closed whilst achieving the same targets.

Head of R&D Operations Jo Plumb said: “We are very proud to have won this award at UHB.

“It is just reward for the effort which is put in by our expert R&D and clinical teams to deliver research for the benefit of our patients by giving our patients the opportunity to access new treatments and drug trials.

“It is also a good message for commercial partners and shows that those partners can come to UHB confident in the knowledge that we can deliver studies on time to budget.”
