Volunteers needed to help plant 10,000 bulbs

Story posted/last updated: 07 November 2014

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is looking for families, children and green-fingered folk to help plant 10,000 bulbs to brighten up the Woodland Walk and Main Entrance at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB).

As part of the Community Orchard and Gardens project, QEHB has been given five thousand bulbs of both bluebell and snowdrops that must be planted during the first weekend of November.

Meeting outside the Main Entrance of the hospital at 11:00 on both the 1 and 2 of November 2014, the big plant will be supported by the Health for Life programme team, the Cofely grounds and gardens team, and Birmingham City Council’s park rangers.

All volunteers will be shown step-by-step how to plant the bulbs, and all being well, the Woodland Walk and Main Entrance of the hospital will be awash with colour next spring/summer.

Date 1-2 November 2014
Time 11:00 – 16:00
Location Main Entrance, QEHB, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B15 2GW

Bulbs should be handled with gloves, so please bring an old pair as we only have a limited number available. Dibbers and bulbs will be provided.

Volunteers do not have to spend all day at QEHB - if you can only spare half an hour, every bulb planted is a huge help.

If you require any further information, please contact the Community Orchard Team.
