Discharge Lounge

Welcome to the Discharge Lounge

Story posted/last updated: 21 October 2015

The Discharge Lounge, located next to East Block Day Unit, Heritage Building (Queen Elizabeth Hospital) is a comfortable, safe and relaxing environment for patients to be collected by transport, friend or family member and is open between the hours of 08:00 – 20:00.

Patients due to transfer to the Discharge Lounge will be notified the day before their expected discharge date. Ward staff will advise the patient’s carers and relatives that they can be collected from the Discharge Lounge, rather than the ward.

Staff at the Discharge Lounge continue to deliver the highest level of patient care, and ensure that the final part of a patients stay at QEHB is restful one. Here, staff will ensure that patients have the correct medication and paperwork before they return home.

The Lounge has a television, music player, books and magazines, and hot and cold refreshments including; tea and coffee, fresh fruit, cake and a hot meal.

Relatives and carers can collect patients directly from the Discharge Lounge, with access to a free 20 minute pick up point outside East Block Day Unit. Here, visitors avoid the hassle and cost of having to find a car parking space.

The Discharge Lounge is now part of the patient pathway, so patients should expect to be collected from the Lounge at the end of their stay.

For more information, please visit the Discharge Lounge section of the website.
