Sarcomas are rare tumours that arise from cells that make up connective tissue such as bone, cartilage, blood vessels, muscle, fatty tissue, and nerves.

• The Midland Abdominal and Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Unit (MARSU), based at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB), covers a population of around 10 million, specialising in sarcomas of the torso and other complex oncological surgery
• The Unit sees about 700 new patients with sarcoma each year and this number is growing
• We work closely with colleagues at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and frequently undertake joint procedures such as sacrectomy
• Our whole team will be involved in the care of our patients, from the first consultation, through investigations, to treatment, rehabilitation and follow-up
• We have a large team of doctors, specialist nurses, physiotherapists, dieticians and occupational therapists caring for patients
