Hearing Implant Programme
The Midlands Hearing Implant Programme is a highly specialist regional service, meeting the needs of patients with more complex hearing problems requiring a surgical solution. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Audiology Centre accepts referrals from GPs, Audiologists and ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeons for people of all ages and with all degrees and types of hearing loss. The cochlear implant programme was established in 1990 and between the adult and paediatric services we have performed approximately 1,000 implants for patients from all across our region. We are now able to offer a range of implantable hearing technologies for a wide range of hearing problems.
We are a multi-disciplinary team and are one of the largest implant programmes in the country. The adult team is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The Paediatric Team is based at Aston University Day Hospital, part of Birmingham Children's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
