Breast cancer information
The Breast Care Specialist Nurses are employed by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Although they are based in the South Birmingham Breast Unit which is located in the Birmingham Women’s Hospital they routinely see patients in the Cancer Centre and as in patients in both the new and old hospitals.
They aim to provide advice, information and support to patients, their families or carers, who are affected by Breast Cancer.
What can you expect from your Breast Care Nurse Specialist?
Your Breast Care Nurse Specialist is an experienced qualified nurse who has undertaken specialist training in the care of patients with breast problems. The nurse is normally present at your consultations.
Your Breast Care Nurse Specialist will be available at any point during your treatment and also post treatment and during follow up. They are there to offer advice, support and information to you and your family/carer. They will discuss your treatment and provide you with a Care Plan.
A Holistic Needs Assessment can also be provided, this takes into account your practical, family, emotional, spiritual and physical needs and is a good way of making sure that all your needs are being met. Please discuss this with your Breast Care Nurse.
