The department is based on Ward 728 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. This comprises of 36 inpatient beds including 8 post-operative beds offering higher levels of nursing support and monitoring. We also have access to the intensive care unit for those patients who require more extensive support.

We are involved in the diagnosis and management (including operations where necessary) of all conditions affecting the lower bowel i.e. the colon, rectum and anus. As a subspecialty of general surgery, we also offer most treatment for most general surgical conditions including lumps and bumps, hernias, abscesses, abdominal pain etc.
