Diabetes
The Diabetes Centre is based at Nuffield House on the old Queen Elizabeth Hospital site. It provides diabetes education, advice and treatment for patients with diabetes.
Seven diabetes consultants work closely with clinical nurse specialists for diabetes, podiatrists and dietitians to provide multi-disciplinary care for patients. Many sub-specialty clinics have been developed jointly with other specialties. The diabetes clinics provide near-patient testing for diabetes control (Haemoglobin A1c), renal function and lipids. These include:
- clinics for those with kidney disease related to diabetes
- a transition clinic from the paediatric diabetes service
- a foot clinic
- a lipid clinic
- a preconception clinic
- an antenatal clinic
- an insulin pump clinic
- an erectile dysfunction clinic
Inpatient diabetes support is provided by the diabetes consultants and by clinical nurse specialists at the Queen Elizabeth site.
