Getting to the radiotherapy department
The Radiotherapy department is based at Old Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and treatment is routinely between 08:00 – 18:00.
Train
University station is the closest train station to the hospital and is only a 5-10 minute walk away and there is also a shuttle bus running from the train station to the Cancer Centre, Old QE hospital for those patients who have difficulty walking.
Driving
Car Parking in car park D is free for patients attending for daily radiotherapy treatment.
Car park D is located directly opposite the doors to the Cancer Centre, Old QE hospital. The postcode for your Sat Nav is B15 2TH.
For patients who do drive, please bring in the ticket taken to access the car park and the radiographers will exchange this for a prepaid one to enable exit from the car park without charge.
Can the hospital provide transport for my appointment?
Hospital transport is only provided if a patient has a medical need that stops them from using private or public transport. Patients are entitled to hospital transport if they:
- need to travel lying down
- require continuous oxygen or other medical gases
Using hospital transport can mean spending many hours away from home and travelling long distances therefore we recommend the use of other transport if possible.
If the patient needs any help/advice they can contact Patient Transport Services.
Bromley Wing
Patients may arrange to stay in the Bromley Wing at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, rather than travel for treatment each day. It is comfortable accommodation with meals from Monday to Friday for people who are able to look after themselves. Outside treatment times patients are free to entertain themselves, have visitors or go out. Accommodation here is free and can be arranged by contacting the Bromley Wing.
