Birmingham Advanced Training Post (ATP) description

Birmingham offers a diverse range of experience in hand surgery at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

There is a huge variety of training on opportunities on offer, which can be customised to suit the trainee’s needs. There are 12 orthopaedic and plastic surgeons working in an integrated unit.

The ATP year has a rolling programme of four slots with increasing complexity, including paediatric hand surgery. Trainees are encouraged to take the Hand Diploma and every accommodation is made for this.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham also has a significant military presence, dealing with casualties from Afghanistan, many of whom have significant hand and upper limb injuries.
