Current and past Advanced Training Post (ATP) fellows

Current ATP fellows

Mr Darren Roberts (2014)

Mr Roberts is a south west Orthopaedic trainee who is an ATP fellow in 2014–15. He is currently studying for the British Hand Diploma.

 

Mr Chris Milner (2014)

Mr Milner is a plastic surgery trainee from the Sheffield region who is an ATP fellow in 2014–15. Prior to his time in Birmingham he has completed a fellowship with Dr Scheker and team in the Kleinert Kutz HCC, Louisville, KY.  He is currently studying for the British Hand Diploma.

Past ATP fellows

Major Mark Foster (2013)

After 10 years in the British Army, Major Foster went to St Andrews and Manchester universities to study medicine. While at medical school he re-joined the military and trained as a trauma surgeon before moving into plastic and reconstructive surgery. In the latter part of his training he has researched the "Inflammatory Response to Trauma" for a PhD and is developing treatments to ameliorate the inflammatory response. He has been awarded research fellowships with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre, the Academic Department of Military Surgery and Trauma, and The Royal College of Surgeons of England.

He has been deployed to the Balkans, Iraq and recently to Afghanistan.

His research interests include hand injuries in military patients, timing of reconstruction and the amelioration of the inflammatory response. He has also helped to develop a trials management database. Outside of work, Mark is a keen cave diver and helps run the Defence Medical Services Diving Club.

Mark was appointed in 2014 in Birmingham as a consultant hand surgeon and clinical lecturer.

 

Mr Anuj Mishra (2013)

Mr Mishra trained as a plastic surgeon in the North West and Mersey region. He was an ATP fellow in Birmingham during 2013–14 and successfully completed the BSSH British Hand Diploma and European Hand Diploma in 2013. He is now working as a consultant plastic, reconstructive and hand surgeon at University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust's Wythenshawe Hospital.

 

Miss Claire Simpson (2012)

Miss Simpson trained as an Orthopaedic surgeon in the Mersey Deanery and has responsibilities on the BOTA committee and as the BOTA publicity representative. She was an ATP fellow in Birmingham in 2012–13. She successfully completed the BSSH British Hand Diploma in 2013 and is now working as a Hand surgery consultant in Edinburgh.

 

Miss Louise Crawford (2011)

Miss Crawford trained as an orthopaedic surgeon in the north west. She was an ATP fellow in Birmingham in 2011–12 and then completed an upper limb fellowship in Chesterfield before taking up her post as a consultant in upper limb surgeon in Tameside General Hospital in Manchester.

 

Miss Lorraine Olley (2010)

Miss Olley trained in the UK and was an ATP fellow in Birmingham in 2010–11.

 

Mr Rajive Jose (2009)

Mr Jose trained as a plastic surgeon in the West Midlands. He was an ATP fellow in Birmingham in 2009–10 and then undertook a second hand surgery fellowship at the Pulvertaft Unit in Derby in 2010. Mr Jose currently works as a consultant hand surgeon at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

 

Miss Anthea Davy (2008)

Miss Davy trained as an orthopaedic surgeon in the UK. She was an ATP fellow in 2008–09. Since then she has worked as a locum consultant hand surgeon in Coventry and Warwickshire and now is now working as a consultant at University College London Hospital.

 

Mr Dominic Power (2007)

Mr Power trained as an orthopaedic surgeon in the West Midlands. He was an ATP fellow in 2007–08 and is now working at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham as a consultant hand surgeon with a specialist interest in brachial plexus.

 

Mr Christopher Duff (2006)

Mr Duff trained as a plastic surgeon in the North West and South Yorkshire/Trent deaneries. He was an ATP Hand Fellow in Birmingham in 2006–07 and is now a consultant plastic, reconstructive and hand surgeon at University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust's Wythenshawe Hospital.

 

Mr Andrew Mahon (2005)

Mr Mahon trained as an orthopaedic surgeon in the north of England. During this time, he also completed a masters degree in Orthopaedic Engineering. He was an ATP fellow in Birmingham in 2005–06 and then became an upper limb consultant at the University Hospital of North Durham in 2006. In 2009 he moved to be a consultant at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and in 2014 has taken up a Consultant post at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire.

 

Mr Christopher Little (2004)

Mr Little trained as an orthopaedic surgeon, initially in Bristol before moving to the Oxford Deanery in 1999. He was an ATP hand fellow in Birmingham in 2004–05 and is now a consultant in hand and upper limb surgery. He is presently Clinical Lead for Hand and Upper Limb Surgery at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust.
