Current UK and EU hand surgery fellows

Ms Michelle Spiteri (2014–15)

Ms Spiteri started her orthopaedic training in Malta before moving to the Oxford Deanery to complete her training and a masters degree in Orthopaedic Engineering. She was a hand fellow in Birmingham in 2014–15, then undertook a further hand and wrist fellowship in Chelsea and Westminster.

 

Mr Mohammad Nassimizadeh (2014–15)

Mr Nassimizadeh is currently completing a 12-month junior hand fellowship in Birmingham.

 

Miss Alexia Karantana (2014–15)

Miss Karantana is a Nottingham orthopaedic trainee who has completed an ATP post in Manchester and is now spending a year in Birmingham.

 

Mr Qureish Vanat (2014–15)

Mr Vanat is currently completing a 12-month junior hand fellowship in Birmingham.

 

Miss Katie Young (2014–15)

Miss Young is a junior research fellow working in the the Hand Surgery department and helping to initiate and co-ordinate many research studies and trials which the unit is undertaking.

Previous UK and EU hand surgery fellows

Mr Amir Ismail (2013–14)

Mr Ismail was a plastic surgery trainee in the West Midlands region and then spent six months in the Hand Unit completing a fellowship.

 

Mr Justin Chatterjee (2013–14)

MrChatterjee trained as a plastic surgeon in Scotland and completed training atCanniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit withCCT in August 2013.  He was awarded a Fellowship in Plastic Surgery from both the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, as well as the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. He completed a one-year post-CCT hand fellowship in Birmingham in 2013–14 and has successfully completed the European Diploma in Hand Surgery (2013) and the BSSH British Hand Diploma (2014). Currently Mr Chatterjee is completing a one-year microsurgery and hand surgery fellowship in Vancouver.

 

Mrs Elizabeth George (2013–14)

Mrs George was a North East Plastics trainee and completed a hand surgery fellowship in Birmingham in 2013-14. She is currently working as a consultant hand surgeon in the North East.

 

Mr Richard Pinder (2013–14)

Mr Pinder trained as a plastic surgeon on the Yorkshire rotation prior to undertaking a pre-CCT fellowship in hand surgery in Birmingham. During his fellowship he undertook the BSSH Hand Diploma, passing the final module assessment in March 2014. After the fellowship in Birmingham he went on to a carry out a fellowship in microsurgery in Leeds before being appointed to a post as a Consultant in Plastic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery in Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust.

 

Miss Eleonore Breuning (2013–14)

Miss Breuning was a plastic surgery trainee in the West Midlands and worked with us as a hand fellow in 2013–14. She is currently completing a fellowship at the British Columbia Children's Hospital in Vancouver.

 

Mr Matt Lawson-Smith (2012–13)

Mr Lawson-Smith trained as an orthopaedic surgeon in Perth, Western Australia. He then undertook an upper limb and sports fellowship at Canberra Orthopaedic Group before coming to Birmingham in 2011. Following the completion of his time in Birmingham he has undertaken a shoulder and elbow fellowship in Middlesborough before returning to Australia to work as a hand surgeon.

 

Mr Constantinos Kritiotis (2012–13)

Mr Kritiotis is an orthopaedic trainee from Cyprus who completed a year in Birmingham to advance his skills in hand and reconstructive surgery. He then become a locum consultant in Cornwall, then Devon, and is now a consultant hand surgeon in the American Medical Centre, Cyprus.
