How to become an occupational therapist
Occupational therapists must have a BSc (Hons) degree or equivalent qualification. Often, this is completed over a three year course but universities also offer accelerated and part time courses.
At University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) we regularly offer fieldwork placements to occupational therapy students.
Work experience placements are also available at UHB to provide interested individuals with an insight into the occupational therapy profession.
Further information on placements is available on the work experience page.
Once qualified, all occupational therapists need to register with the Health Professions Council to ensure professional standards and safe working practice is maintained.
