Dr James Ferguson, Consultant Hepatologist

James is a consultant at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. He is a specialist in liver disease and liver transplantation. He is the doctor in charge of the liver transition service.

Monica Smith, Clinical Nurse Specialist

As the clinical nurse specialist for liver transition service, we endeavour to meet the young people at age 11 in their first adolescent clinic and start building a trusting relationship with the young people and their parents/carer, and this takes time. We aim to provide high quality, co-ordinated health-care that is patient-centred, age and developmentally appropriate and culturally competent, flexible, responsive and comprehensive with respect to all persons involved.

The team is here it ensure that each patient receives the best in care and the health/transition journey is as stress free as is feasibly possible, thus ensuring the (YP) develops a sense of control and interdependence throughout their health journey.

Philippa provides support for our young patients on all aspects of life. But in particular she can help with advice on benefits and education.
