The McCanns' story

Wedding celebrated with donation to injured troops

After seeing media coverage of injured military personnel and the fantastic care they receive at Selly Oak Hospital, newlyweds Julie and Paul McCann asked friends and family to donate to the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine in lieu of wedding gifts.

After 16 years of being together, Julie and Paul McCann tied the knot at St Michaels Church in Madeley, Telford. They were joined by over 80 guests at The Valley Hotel near Ironbridge for the reception. Altogether, donations from wedding guests totalled £500.

Julie said: “We think of Selly Oak Hospital as being just down the road from us and after hearing about the military patients, we felt compelled to help some way. Our wedding gave us the perfect opportunity to ask friends and family to contribute to this fantastic cause. We know that the donation will make a difference.“

Major Ian Cheesman, Officer Commanding Patient Support Services, said: “On behalf of the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine, I would like to extend my thanks to Julie and Paul for their kindness and also to their friends and family who donated so generously. The money raised will go towards supporting our military patients here at Selly Oak Hospital.“
