Hand trauma co-ordinators

The hand trauma co-ordinators are the linchpin in the hand trauma service at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

The vast majority of hand trauma patients who require surgery can be allowed home after initial review in the Emergency Department or the Outpatient Department, and are then called back for their surgery as a day-case procedure. This is ideal for the patients’ convenience and a very efficient way of working for the NHS. In order to make this process run smoothly, the hand co-ordinators work hard to plan trauma lists for all the hand surgeons and regularly contact patients at home to inform them of their planned surgery date and times. The surgical procedures are carried out in the Ambulatory Care Unit.
