Neurology
Neurology deals with diseases of the nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, nerve, muscle and their connections. Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) is a regional centre providing treatment for Birmingham, the West Midlands and surrounding areas.
In addition to our general neurological and neurosurgical services, the department provides 24-hour emergency care and, as QEHB is a major trauma centre, our specialists work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering urgent and complex neuro-trauma care to those suffering brain or spinal injury.
The regional centre has eight full-time consultant neurologists and more than 20 other consultants, plus clinical nurse specialists.
Regular specialist clinics are undertaken in several sub-specialty areas including:
- Parkinson’s disease
- epilepsy
- multiple sclerosis
- motor neurone disease
- botulinum toxin
- neuromuscular diseases
- stroke
- neuroimmunology
- neuro-rehabilitation
- headaches
The department also has a strong track record of world-class research with close links to the University of Birmingham.
