Pain management clinics
There are a variety of clinics held each week by the three consultants working in the service. Each consultant holds a weekly multi-disciplinary clinic for new patients, where patients are assessed by the consultant, clinical psychologist and physiotherapist. There are also doctor-only clinics run specifically for nerve pain, and pelvic or abdominal pain.
There are also doctor-only clinics to deal with specific problems, such as pain from nerve damage, and pelvic pain. There are also clinics which are run by the nurses to follow up patients following medication changes, providing education, advice and support.
The Clinical Nurse Specialists provide nurse led clinics as follows:
- acupuncture clinics
- transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) clinics providing information, advice and reviews for individual patients using this pain management strategy
- medicines management clinics
- medication and injection review clinics
- telephone review clinics for medication and injection review
As well as seeing people in the multidisciplinary clinic, the clinical psychologists also see clients individually, in order to help them manage the impact that chronic pain can have on their lives. The clinical psychologists, along with nurses and a physiotherapist run a pain management group programme.
