You said, we did – Shuttlebug benches
You said
The volunteers who drive the Shuttlebug highlighted the fact that patients didn’t have anywhere to sit while they waited for the buggy. The Shuttlebug is the courtesy shuttle service provided by volunteers which transfers patients from Car Park A to the QEHB entrance.
In addition, a number of the ‘Welcomer’ volunteers in the atrium commented that if they showed patients outside to catch the Q-Park shuttle bus, there was nowhere for patients to sit and wait. The wait could be up to twenty minutes while the bus is on its route around the hospital site.
Many of the patients who use both the Shuttlebug and Q-Park courtesy bus are elderly and frail and aren’t able to stand for any period of time.
We did
The Trust purchased three extra benches - two have been installed adjacent to the Q-Park courtesy bus stop outside the hospital and one is situated at the entrance to Car Park A for the Shuttlebug passengers.
Pat Wilson, voluntary services manager, said: “Our volunteers are the eyes and ears of the hospital and have some great ideas to make patients’ experience of the hospital as positive as possible. With help from Lesley Denslow, clinical advisor, and Graham Hackett, estates and design manager, we were able to respond to patients’ needs and install these extra benches.”
