Implant follow up programme

Our programme complies with the joint British Cochlear Implant Group (BCIG)/Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID) Quality Standards for Adult Cochlear Implantation, revised June 2009. For a copy of the adult quality standards, please see the external link box.

After the switch-on period, you will be invited back to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Audiology Centre (QEHAC) for a programme of regular follow-up appointments to review your progress.

The schedule of appointments is typically as follows:

  • One week assessment
  • One and/or two month review (optional)
  • Three month review
  • Six month review
  • Annual reviews

Some patients require additional appointments for programming or listening practice and these can be arranged individually.

If you require an urgent or emergency appointment, please contact us to arrange a short notice appointment. We do not offer a walk-in service.

You may be contacted by us and invited to participate in special research projects, which may involve extra appointments. These are entirely voluntary and will not affect your routine clinical care.
